Synopsis:

Profile of Mike Hartung, an outsider artist in Lindsborg, Kansas whose work shines light on the beauty in grotesque spaces. “I am disrupting my peaceful retirement by still painting," he says in the film. "It’s all I ever wanted to do. In an odd way, I look on myself as a writer who only has a paintbrush as a vocabulary.”

Patrick Troll is a filmmaker, editor, and composer. Raised in Ketchikan, Alaska and now living in Seattle, Washington, Patrick’s work is infused with the wildness and beauty of the greater northwest.

Patrick's 2022 film about prolific midwestern painter Mike Hartung received support from the National Endowment for the Arts and Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission.

Patrick is currently directing a feature-length documentary on his father, world-renowned Alaskan artist Ray Troll. The project is sponsored by Northwest Film Forum and is scheduled to be released in 2024.
